From the flat of Brescia to the Oglio river
This route runs in the last part of the rich end green Central Flat of Brescia, through two protected and relevant areas of the province: The Park of the Strone River, on the way from Verolanuova to Pontevico, and The Regional Nord Park of the Oglio River, from Pontevico to Monticelli d’Oglio. From the station’s square of Manerbio, following the bicycle path Brescia-Cremona (in the direction of Cremona), you reach Verolanuova, entering in The Park of Strone River. The latter, affluent of the Oglio river, is a stream scarcely tampered with artificial works on the banks and so it preserve the native line. You go on with the route through the park, to reach the more important naturalistic part: Le Vincellate. Here, nearby the homonym farmstead, you derive from the river the water plant of Pontevico to irrigate the fields and power the mallet. From Le Vincellate you reach easily the localities of Campazzo and Bettegno. In Campazzo there are Palazzo Simonelli (XVII century) and Villa Salvadego-Molin (XVIII century). The first has a courtyard hemmed in a folksy porch and a big portal on the face. The second, hemmed in folksy buildings, gave hospitality to Ugo Foscolo, Federico Gonfalonieri, Tito Speri and other plotter of the Austrian reign. In Bettegno, Palazzo Martinoni, is forecasted by a beautiful boulevard lined with trees while the access road to the suburb is preceded by a wonderful and memorial portal of stone with broken-face. The building, repeatedly reorganized, has a rounded tower on the roof. So you go on to Monticelli d’Oglio, locality of Verolavecchia, that with a magnificent folksy court, a little church, a court with rich palace and the hill of the ancient castle, represent an authentic jewel of the rural architecture of the Pianura Padana. You return back to Manerbio following the provincial bicycle path in direction of Brescia. Passing through Verolanuova we advice to visit the places recommended to the side. Reaching Manerbio you could return by train. |
