Around monticolo di Darfo
Rocky art in Valle Camonica
The itinerary starts in Darfo on a level with the large stadium car park area, where the Camonica Valley provincial cycle path runs. After the stadium go along Via Giovanni XXIII and turn left towards Boario: after passing the residential area of Montecchio, cross the river Oglio by the characteristic bridge, turning right immediately along the stretch of narrow asphalted road, which skirts the river (provincial cycle path sign).
At the fork we continue left passing through a tunnel, shortly after which the the road becomes a dirt track; to the left, at the foot of Monticolo, you can see two large boulders side by side: on the left-hand you can see an incision comprising nine halberds dating back to the end of the III millennium B.C. (you can receive more archaeological information by visiting the nearby Archeopark).
Carrying on we come to two forks in the road, the first of which you take to the left and the second to the right: continue for a long stretch skirting the river Oglio, which runs to your right and then turn left on to asphalt past the railway line heading left for Piamborno. Having passed through the village, you turn left straight after the church and then right into Via Mortirolo. Having passed by the farmstead, turn right at the crossroads; picking up the asphalt surface again, carry on straight ahead at the first crossroads and then right at the second set. Pass through the industrial area staying on Via Pradeand, at its end, bypass the square continuing towards Darfo keeping the railway line to the right.
At the crossroads after the Congress Centre turn left and, after passing the Montecchio bridge and the church of the oratory, you come back to the stadium again, where the itinerary ends. |
